Hello, October! The summer season has officially come to a close, and while we’re sure to miss those sunny North Carolina beach days, a little change never hurts – especially when it comes to designing!
Fall is here, which means it’s time to start redesigning and redecorating at home as we gear-up for a season of sweaters and cocoa. After-all, there really is nothing better than feeling a brisk autumn breeze as the ground becomes blanketed with a glowing sea of red-orange leaves.
Transforming your home to create that comfortable fall atmosphere first centers around your choice of color. Typically, when it comes to autumn hues, we think orange, red, brown, or yellow – to match the changing trees and abundance of pumpkins and gourds. When it comes to adding some fall color, I always try to think outside the box. For example, incorporating copper accents adds a subtle fall hue and adds some unique-ness to the overall room design. Or, a pop of magenta or dark plum as throw pillows adds a moody sophistication and contrasts beautifully against neutral fall tones.
In any room design, choosing the right patterns is key. When it comes to fall designs, be sure to use patterns that are not overpowering, but still contribute to creating the cozy, elegant atmosphere you’re trying to achieve. For me, a go-to fall pattern that never disappoints is a classic black-and-white plaid! The easiest and most cost-effective way to add some plaid into your designs is to use the pattern in either throw blankets or pillows, or dining table placemats.
Florals are always a fresh addition, no matter the season! Add some greenery with eucalyptus leaf garlands atop your mantle, dining or coffee table, then pair it with some vibrant orange blooms for eye-catching arrangement that definitely screams fall.
Using one (or all!) of these fall-designing tips will absolutely have you ready for pumpkin season as your home turns into an autumn oasis!
